April 07

As you can see, it's been a while since we've posted anything.
It is now the end of term 1, so we are able to relax (as if!) and we have opted to take a week away (thanks Rob).
We spent the last 7 days in a place called Ballarat, at an asylum, where we lounged around all day until the staff called us for our medications. Not really, but that was the feel of the place, and we were happy to go along with that and enjoy the serenity of the grand old buildings and gardens. We enjoyed a 2 day stint at Sovereign Hill, and could have stayed there longer, taking advantage of the Blood Under The Southern Cross show one evening and getting along to the Gold Museum as well. We spent one day travelling through to Colac and on over the Otways to Apollo Bay. Of course, Darcy and I had to have a swim and the others got wet as well. It was an exciting day, capped off with the rare experience of watching a ute and trailer pass us and then go straight off the road and down the steep incline. The poor fellow driving was shaken but luckily not hurt. The ute and trailer were a write off I would say. We stopped to assist and the pay off was seeing the tow truck and police arrive (for the kids anyway).
The Otway Fly is a great concept, but didn't impress us too much as we get the same view from our bedroom window, or on a short walk via a nearby track. We realise just how spoiled we are living where we do!!
The boys and I took a tour of Kryall Castle, built by a local chap who had planned to build a castle from the age of 4. They were very impressed at the armoury on display and at having met a real "knight" who gave us a tour and introduced us to one of his knight friends who then went on to entertain us with stories about every dent and scratch on their armour and helmets. It was informative and worth the 40 bucks it cost us to get in. As it was a weekday there were no shows on so we missed out on seeing a whipping and hanging, but the place was being prepared for a Wolfmother concert on that night, so the boys got to see all the trucks and roadies setting up for that. Double value.
Ballarat is a nice place to slow down for a week. The pace reminds me of Tasmania. On the way home we stopped in Melbourne city and did a tour of the war memorial and southbank. We really live in an interesting and friendly city. A week off away from home is nice, but once you start to get the feel of travelling and not having to be anywhere at a certain time, the idea of a month, or six, just travelling around here or abroad is very tempting.
We hope all of you up north and overseas enjoy the Dropshot clip. I'm biased but I think there are some great shots of the kids in there.
Looking forward to catching up with some of you over Easter, and with Pop & Nanna after Easter. It's going to be a very busy 2nd term for us, so I hope you have some points you want to get rid of in June or July Rob!!

Go on. click it, you know you want to......

Moving into March

We've been rather busy lately and have not dedicated any time to this. Getting up to date.....It's been very hot with scatterings of rain (decent rain) over the last month. I don't have to water our garden in anycase and it's all growing. The highlight of my gardening career was last Wednesday when I lashed out and hired a 'Duetscher.' If you don't know what a 'Deutscher' is, you are in good company. But if you live on anything over half an acre and are still doing your lawns and weeds yourself with a lawn mower, YOU need to know what a 'Deutscher' is! It's a HUGE lawn mower that propels itself alog (with you in semi control) and mows and mulches ALL the sticks and ferns and bushes that dare to be in the way. After approximately 2 hours my whole acre is complete mulch. I feel so ashamed after the last five years and three lawn mowers that I've never tried one of these before. There are probably so many things out there I haven't tried, like driving on the right hand side of the road, eating tofu, etc.
From now on it's 'Duetscher' hire twice a year and that's it.
Riveting stuff, eh?
The kids are growing fast. If you're lucky I will have a video inserted in this blog (I haven't made on yet).
Most of my footage lately is of beach stuff, and a recent blog already has a piece that covers that. We have been loving the beach. We do the tent thing now and it makes it much easier to stay on the beach for an extended period with all the kids. We now have most of our programs and regular things started up again so time is the issue. This year is already fidning us with a full sheet of things to do and be involved in. That's a far better option than having nothing to do. And we are well experienced enough to be able to drop things that are not necessary when we have to.
It's great to have the in-laws out for a short stay!
Looking forward to the beach tomorrow.......

Monday, 29th JANUARY

The Long Weekend went very well. We had some guests over to have a barbeque on Australia Day. It was a very nice day.

The boys are enjoying getting into music. Have a look at our little clip, made entirely from our talent. I would put it on UTube but I think it's best the boys complete their studies before having to contend with the distractions and obligations of fame.

....only 5 more sleeps 'till our International visitors arrive!!

Half Way Through January!

We're enjoying the slow pace of January very much. Both of us are working, but you'd hardly know it. It makes me wonder what all the extra things are that actually contribute to making life as busy as it gets? Deadlines are good at any time of year to make sure you do get things done.

Looking forward to our visitors from N.I. in Feb (it's getting closer......) and to 'little sis' becoming a Victorian again.

Still a cycle of hot days followed by a little rain here. The DSE continues it's massive burn offs. Unfortunately there has been some homes lost. Hopefully controlled burns or at least allowing cattle to graze the high country will come back onto the political agenda before people forget about the million hectares of Victorian high country that have burned uncontrolled this summer.

Are Pop & Nanna coming down in March still? We don't have any plans to head north soon, so I hope so.

Here what we did at the beach the other evening.....
